Obituary for Carol (Denham) Baines
Carol Baines, born Carol Denham in Portland, Oregon, will be remembered for her deep faith, creative spirit, and a spark of humor that stayed with her throughout her life. At 82 years old, she spent her final years surrounded by family and love, alternating living with her two daughters and son-in-law. Her Pomeranian, Hope, brought joy and companionship to her life for 9 years, including her last days.
Carol grew up on the Oregon coast, where she and her sister Jeanne spent countless hours exploring, laughing, and eating wild blackberries salted by the sea straight off the bush—moments she treasured her whole life. She was the daughter of Sylvia and Mike Denham, and the sister of Ross Denham, Buck Denham, and Jeanne Denham (Trebor-MacConnell), who remains to lovingly remember her.
Carol married her love, Paul Frederick Baines, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised two daughters: Caroline Baines and Paula Baines (McDaniel). Carol was endlessly proud of her three grandchildren—Sophia, Olivia, and Drake —each of whom brought her immense joy.
A lifelong artist, Carol created beauty everywhere she went. She loved cross-stitch, crochet, drawing, painting, and all sorts of crafts, filling her home with color, texture, and creativity.
She was also an avid reader-so devoted that she read the entire Bible from cover to cover, likely more times than anyone could count. Her mother Sylvia passed down a love of hymns, and Carol knew them by heart.
Carol lived most of her life in Washington State, though she treasured her years in South Florida—mostly because she could finally be warm. No matter where she lived, her home was always welcoming and full of laughter. She had a dry, sharp sense of humor and could always make you smile. She was eclectic, crazy in the most lovable way, funny, fiercely loyal, and incredibly smart.
Above all else, Carol loved the Lord with her entire being. Her faith shaped everything she did-from the way she raised her daughters to the gentle wisdom she offered, sometimes with a bit of sass for emphasis. She was passionate about caring for her family and poured her heart into the people she loved.
Carol leaves behind a legacy of faith, creativity, laughter, and love that will continue in the lives of her children, grandchildren, sister, and all who were blessed to know her.
