DAVID LILE DeGOOD

January 9, 1940 — April 30, 2025

BENTON CITY

A graveside service for David DeGood, who passed away on April 30, will be held at the Prosser Cemetery at 1 p.m. on May 16. A small reception will be held after the service at the American Legion Hall in Benton City, WA at 2 p.m. Cake, coffee, and assorted beverages will be served. He was born in Seattle, Washington on January 9, 1940, to Bruce and Marye DeGood. The family later moved to Benton City when Bruce got a job at Hanford as a bus driver. After receiving a clearance they moved to Richland. David graduated from Columbia High School, Richland, in 1958. He enlisted in the Navy that same year. He became a submariner. The submarines at the time were diesel powered. After he was honorably discharged he ended up in Portland, Oregon, fixing time clocks. You used to have to punch in and out using a time clock with a time card at work. That was how they kept track of hours worked. He moved back home when his father became ill, as did brother Daryl. By then Bruce was manager of the Transportation Department at Hanford. Bruce passed away in 1978. David and Daryl decided to go to the automotive school at Columbia Basin College. Both boys loved to tinker with cars. They finished that school and moved on to earn another votech degree at a diesel school in Portland, Oregon. He and Daryl came back to live in Prosser. David worked for several truck shops in Pasco, including Six States Distributing. In 1984 he and brother Daryl started their own business, DeGood’s Gear Train and Cylinder Head Service. They started in Sunnyside and then worked out of Savage and Sons shop, renting a bay from them. They built up enough business to open up on their own shop in Pasco. After five years they decided to go work out in the area. They went to NCO school and got hired on at Hanford. Marye became ill so David had to quit to take care of her. She and David moved to Benton City around 1986. Marye passed away in 1999. David never married. His wit and humor will be missed.
