Dennis S. Moon, 69, life-long Prosser resident, entered into rest at his home on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Dennis was born in Pasco, Washington to Shirl and Marles (Stone) Moon. He was raised in the Horse Heaven Hills near Prosser and attended Paterson grade school. Dennis graduated from Prosser High School with the Class of 1965 and then furthered his education at Columbia Basin College.
Dennis married Diane Nadine Buechler in Kennewick, WA on July 29, 1967 and they made their home in Horse Heaven and farmed dryland wheat for many years. Dennis was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter for over forty years.
Dennis was a true sports enthusiast. He was a running back on the Prosser High School football team. When he skied, he rarely stopped for lunch and wouldn’t leave the slopes until the lifts closed. Every Wednesday night for over twenty years, he hustled and threw elbows on the basketball court at Housel Middle School. He also enjoyed playing softball, tennis, and golf with his friends and was the last true “Iron Man.” Despite the distance and time commitment, he made sure he was able to attend every home and away game of his children’s high school basketball and football games. For years, he loved running the chains at Prosser High School football games until he was physically unable to continue.
Dennis had other passions in his lifetime also. He particularly enjoyed going to the beach with his family, arguing politics, reading and playing pinochle with a group of friends for thirty-five years.
He was a member of the Washington Wheat Growers Association, Farm Bureau, and Washington State Cattleman’s Association. He also served as board member of the Pendleton Grain Growers Association and served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman.
Dennis is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Diane Moon of Prosser; his sons, David (Carolyn) Moon of Prosser and Joshua (Julie) Moon of Spokane; his daughter, Lory (Darren) Moon-Bowden of Snoqualmie, WA; and his grandchildren, Kathryn, Jonathon, Emily and Sidney Moon and London Krett. Dennis is also survived by his mother, Marles Moon of Prosser; brother, George (Julie) Moon of Prosser; sisters, Mary (Mike) Kukes of Grandview, Dianna Moon of Prosser, Gladys “Gigi” (Bill) Troemel of Oxnard, CA; sister-in-law, Connie Moon of Richland; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Shirl Moon and brother, Sidney Moon.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 9th at the Prosser Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Horse Heaven Community Hall. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lower Valley Hospice. You may leave a message for the family at www.Prosserfuneralhome.com
