Harold Lusch was born April 8, 1936 in Pierre, South Dakota to Phyllis and Edgar Lusch. He passed away at his home in Prosser, Washington on May 14, 2025.He was raised in Sunnyside, Washington, and attended Sunnyside High School. His mother was widowed, and married Roy Elder, who was a great dad to Harold and his sisters. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as an electrician. Harold had many stories from serving in Korea, but many of his memories were from the bitterly cold winters. After the Air Force, Harold returned to the Yakima Valley. He worked for Libby’s for many years, and retired from Twin City Foods, where he was a fryer operator in 1998. In his retirement, he watched some of his grandkids, and took them along to visit with his friends, Al and Dorothy. Harold was never a fan of sitting around, so when he “retired” from watching the grandkids, he went back to work as a parts runner for Napa in Prosser. He finally retired for good in 2016, at the age of 80.
Family was dear to Harold. He was proud to tell anyone who would listen about his kids, and grandkids. Doing a job right was very important to Harold, and he taught his kids to show up on time, and work hard. He loved to play cards, and would never go easy on a kid who played Solitaire. He would laugh and laugh as he threw a card at someone who missed a play. Harold loved old cars, restoring a 1969 Dodge Charger, and attending Hot August Nights in Reno. He also loved his beloved Mariners. He attended Spring Training, and many games in Seattle. When he couldn’t go to a game, it was always on at home.
Harold and his wife, Debbie recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, and kids Randy, Gaylen (Crystal), Don (Ella), and Brandi. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kylee, Josh, Gaylen Jr, Brandon, Tiffany, Nathan, Izzy, and Luke. He is also survived by his sisters Karen (Roy) Andrews, Linda FLowers, and Shiela (Dana) Rudd. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Michael, and sister Toni Butterfield.
A Rosary will be said in honor of Harold at 7 pm on Monday, May 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser, Wa. A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 20 at 10 am at Sacred Heart, with reception to follow in Smith Hall.
