On September 1, 2025, The Lord called home one of His Angels…our beloved mom, wife, grandma, sister, aunt, friend and daughter of God.
Paula Sue Sorensen, born Paula Weaver, was born on May 12th, 1949 in the Heart of it All: The Great State of Ohio.
From her childhood in Circleville to the campus of THE Ohio State University, she called the Buckeye state home until a summer trip in 1973 would change her life forever.
While traveling in Europe, she met a young, handsome, ambitious and charming guy from Prosser Washington. A few months later, she would marry her to-be husband of 53 years, Alan Sorensen, and move west to the Yakima Valley. In Prosser, she would plant her forever roots and grow her family and farm concord grapes while building one of the most impressive runs of family-owned, multi-generational agricultural success that continues to this day.
Throughout her journey of 76 years, Paula touched countless lives. As a school teacher, a friend, a 2nd mom to her son’s friends…it didn’t matter how you knew her, but if you met her you immediately were drawn to her warmth and the presence of Jesus that was felt by all who knew her. Throughout the years she developed friendships that defined how special she was. She was loved by the amazing team at the Diamond Club for the Mariners. On games she’d attend…you could feel the warmth and love between her and her friends. And the Valet crew at the Wynn in Las Vegas loved her as well…she cared so much about so many of the guys, their kids and their lives. And we can’t forget to mention her friends at the Citrus Club at the Biltmore (where some flew to Seattle to watch baseball with her!) She just had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the world…because when you were with her, you were.
She was devoted, through thick and thin, to THE Ohio State Buckeyes. She never let a fall football Saturday go without wearing her Scarlet and Gray. And her beloved team, unbeknownst to them, delivered her a gift on the day of her passing: becoming the #1 ranked team in the country. That’s some Hang on Sloopy right there.
She leaves a loyal and dedicated family behind to carry her legacy. Survived by her husband Alan, sons Chris, Matt and Tyler, Daughters-in-law Tina, D and Hannah, brother Keith and his wife Irma, sister Vicky, her best friend Sharon and her husband Jeff and countless friends. Her absolute pride and joy are her three stud grandsons Joryn (11,) Ryker (10) and Soren (9) (all future Buckeyes) and beautiful granddaughter Devan (22.)
One of her favorite verses was Romans 8:28 ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.’ Her purpose and her calling were to live for and serve The Lord and she did it all, beautifully.
We love you so much Mom and will miss you dearly. Thank you for being the absolute best.
This is for you.
